Quick Tip 5: This Cheap Tool is a Game Changer

Of all the tools and materials on which I’ve spent more than I care to recall — haven’t we all? — there’s one really cheap but ingenious item which was a game changer for the quality of my kit-building.

And that’s the Ultimate Modelling Products Customisable Sanding Sheet.

On my desk, there’s always a selection of strips of each grade, trimmed into tapered miniature sanding sticks of around 5-6mm at one end and as small as 1mm at the other. That’s slim enough to get around a lot of raised details in kits from the likes of Bronco, AFV Club, and MiniArt, and fix seam lines and awkward sprue attachments.

It would be way harder to build my kind of kit to a good standard without the help of these humble little plastic rectangles.

I could say exactly the same for high quality fine-tipped sprue nippers, but the UMP sanders are a tenth of the price so at least you don’t have that excuse for not trying them.
