Sometimes, I stumble over a great product which deserves more attention than it receives, and the 3D-printed track sets from QuickTracks are very much in that class. I guess that’s the TLDR right there.
- For T-30 to early T-60 Soviet light tanks
- Ref: T-35048
- £15 (exc. delivery) at the time of publishing
- From quickwheelstore.com
With 3D printing being the thing in modelling for the last few years with an explosion of new producers, the market for track sets was bound to join the revolution. We have some high profile names with great reputations, but also some which haven’t had much attention for whatever reason.
So far, my experience of 3D parts has been a bit mixed. Some brilliant, some not so much (to put it politely). So I admit that I’ve become a bit wary if I don’t know enough about a product’s reputation.
If you’re familiar with MiniArt’s family of T-60 Soviet light tanks, you’ll know that they are mostly good, but are burdened with tiny individual links which have to be cemented, so MiniArt somehow managed to combine the worst of two worlds! I may even have preferred link-and-length, which is really saying something.
On Scalemates, there’s the usual Friulmodel option, Masterclub, and these from QuickTracks. I hadn’t heard of it, but it turned out to be part of QuickWheel. Logical… It has an impressive range of track sets and they are cheaper than alternatives. This T-60 set is just £15, about £21 delivered in the UK, which is almost too good to be true. Maybe they’ll be rubbish…
Nope. Not at all. As I hinted up front, so no surprises here, this product is absolutely superb.
These tiny links, which look potentially fragile and troublesome, actually click together reliably if you take care. I snapped only one, I think, and the others all joined consistently enough to stay that way during painting. And — something else which matters to me — there were enough spares remaining to make a run for impressing track marks in groundwork.
Based on this example, I wholeheartedly recommend that you try QuickTracks when you next make a subject which this company has included in its range.
